Your art is my treasure! Preserving & showcasing your child's art.

Updated: Jun 13, 2023

PREPARATION TIME: 1 hour | AGE: 0 - 3 years old

MATERIALS:

  • Picture frame

  • Drawings/paintings your child created over the years

  • Scissors

  • Small bowls of different sizes

  • Pencil

  • Glue

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Gather the drawings and paintings your child has created over the years. Choose the ones you want to showcase in the picture frame.

  2. Take a small bowl and place it on a drawing or painting. Use a pencil to trace around the bowl, creating a round shape on the artwork. Repeat this step for each drawing or painting you want to include in the frame.

  3. Carefully cut out the round shapes following the traced lines using scissors. Make sure to cut neatly and precisely to preserve the integrity of the artwork.

  4. Remove the backside of the picture frame.

  5. Apply a small amount of glue to the back part of the picture frame. Arrange the round pieces of drawings or paintings on the glued area. You can place them randomly or create a specific pattern, depending on your preference.

  6. Press down gently on each round piece to ensure they adhere well to the frame. Allow the glue to dry completely.

  7. Once the glue is dry, carefully put the frame back together. Make sure all the components fit snugly and securely.

  8. Congratulations on completing the child artwork display! You've crafted a remarkable and personalized masterpiece that beautifully showcases your child's artistic creations. Hang it on the wall or place it on a tabletop to cherish and admire their talent.

DEVELOPMENT AREAS:

  1. CREATIVITY: The activity encourages children to express their imagination and originality through their artwork and the arrangement of the pieces within the frame.

  2. FINE MOTOR SKILLS: Cutting out the round shapes from the drawings or paintings helps develop precise control of small hand movements and hand-eye coordination.

  3. VISUAL-SPATIAL SKILLS: Tracing and arranging the round pieces on the frame promotes the ability to perceive and understand spatial relationships, shapes, and patterns.

  4. COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT: Planning and organizing the artwork within the frame involves cognitive processes such as decision-making, problem-solving, and sequencing.

  5. EMOTIONAL CONNECTION: Displaying their own artwork in a frame allows children to form a personal and emotional bond with their creations, fostering a sense of pride and accomplishment.

  6. SELF-ESTEEM: Showcasing their artwork and creative abilities in a frame can boost a child's confidence, self-worth, and belief in their own skills and talents.

  7. MEMORY: Reflecting on past artwork and arranging it within the frame helps children recall memories associated with each piece, fostering memory development and reminiscing.

  8. APPRECIATION FOR ART: Creating a dedicated space to display their artwork cultivates an understanding and respect for art, both in their own work and in the broader context of artistic expression.

  9. COMMUNICATION: Sharing their artwork with others in the framed display encourages children to communicate about their creative process, ideas, and experiences.

  10. STORYTELLING: The framed artwork can become a storytelling tool, allowing children to narrate the inspiration behind their pieces, share meaningful stories, and engage in imaginative narratives.

  11. AESTHETIC APPRECIATION: The final result—a collection of artwork displayed in a frame—enhances a child's ability to recognize and appreciate visual beauty, composition, and aesthetics.
