Water bottle comet

PREPARATION TIME: 15 minutes | AGE: 1.5 - 3 years old

MATERIALS:

  • Plastic bottle

  • Knife

  • Scissors

  • Crepe paper

  • Wide tape

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Begin by cutting the plastic bottle in half.

  2. Remove the bottle cap from the bottle's top part.

  3. Proceed to cut strips of crepe paper, each measuring 20 to 40 cm in length.

  4. Cut a strip of tape that is sufficiently long to encircle the bottle's circumference once.

  5. Attach one end of the crepe paper strips to the tape, positioning them adjacently and solely on the lower segment of the tape.

  6. Wrap the tape, along with the loose crepe paper strips, around the lower part of the upper half of the bottle.

  7. Finally, encourage the child to toss their crafted comet into the air for a playful experience.

DEVELOPMENT AREAS:

  1. CREATIVITY: Choosing colors of crepe paper, deciding on the arrangement of strips, and personalizing their comet encourages creative thinking.

  2. SPATIAL AWARENESS: Manipulating the materials to fit them around the bottle enhances spatial awareness as children determine how to wrap the tape and crepe paper effectively.

  3. PROBLEM SOLVING: Overcoming challenges, such as attaching crepe paper to tape and wrapping it around the bottle, fosters problem-solving skills and critical thinking.

  4. SENSORY EXPLORATION: Handling different textures of materials like plastic, crepe paper, and tape engages a child's sense of touch and contributes to sensory exploration.

  5. SELF-ESTEEM AND PRIDE: Successfully creating a comet promotes a sense of accomplishment, boosting a child's self-esteem and confidence in their abilities.

  6. IMAGINATION AND PLAY: Children might engage in imaginative play, envisioning their comet flying through the sky, which nurtures their creativity and storytelling skills.

  7. GROSS MOTOR SKILLS: The final step of tossing the comet into the air encourages physical movement and active play.
